What is Hijama Cupping Therapy?
There are two primary types of Cupping: Blood Cupping and Dry Cupping. Blood Cupping, also known as Wet Cupping, involves the removal of blood from the body (Hijama falls under this category). On the other hand, Dry Cupping does not involve blood removal. This latter type has gained popularity among Olympic athletes recently, as it leaves noticeable circular marks on the skin.
‘Hijama,’ or wet cupping, is an ancient practice in traditional medicine. It involves drawing blood from specific points on the body by making small incisions in the skin and then using suction cups to extract deoxygenated “bad” blood. This process helps detoxify the body and improve blood circulation.
Hijama can be used to treat various ailments, including:
- Muscular aches (back, shoulder, neck, and knee pain)
- Infertility (for both males and females)
- Neurological disorders (migraine, epilepsy, seizures)
- Respiratory disorders (influenza, cough, smoking cessation)
- Gastrointestinal disorders (bowel diseases, constipation)
Hijama is most effective when performed at the site of pain.
